First Look: Hot Wheels Racing Culture Brings New Packaging for 2027

Hot Wheels is taking a different approach with its new 2027 Racing Culture series. The first set features four race-inspired cars and a packaging style that gives collectors a fresh view of what is inside.

Instead of the familiar side view, the cars are displayed from above. That makes the roof, hood, and overall shape easier to see—and could give this series a distinctive look on the pegs or hanging on a collector’s wall.

Four Cars in the First Set

The opening lineup brings together touring car racing, rallying, drifting, and an iconic Mazda racer. Here is a closer look at each car.

Mazda RX-7 GTO

The Mazda RX-7 GTO wears a white and blue racing livery with number 62 graphics. Its wide body and large rear wing give it an aggressive appearance, while the new package orientation highlights the graphics across the hood and roof.

For collectors who enjoy purpose-built race cars, the Mazda could be one of the standouts in this first set.

Audi A4

The Audi A4 features a red and white Audi Cup livery with number 15 graphics. Its low stance, extended bodywork, and prominent rear wing bring a different racing style to the lineup.

The top-down presentation puts the Audi branding and roof details front and center, although collectors will need a side view to fully appreciate the door graphics.

Subaru Impreza S7 WRC01

The Subaru Impreza S7 WRC01 adds a rally car to the mix. Its blue paint, yellow graphics, and gold-colored wheels create a recognizable Subaru racing look.

The packaging also has a dirt-themed backdrop beneath the car, helping it stand apart from the circuit racers and drift car in the set.

Ford Mustang RTR

The Ford Mustang RTR brings the boldest color combination of the four, with black, yellow, and bright pink graphics in a Pennzoil-themed livery.

The hood and roof graphics work especially well with the overhead display. Tire-mark artwork beneath the car adds to the drifting theme and gives the package some extra character.

A Smaller Opening Lineup

This first Racing Culture set contains four cars, one fewer than the usual five-car Car Culture or Pop Culture lineup.

It is a varied selection, with each car representing a different part of racing culture. Whether your preference is rally cars, touring cars, or drifting, there is something here to catch your attention.

What Do We Think of the New Packaging?

The overhead display is the biggest talking point. It could help Racing Culture stand out on crowded pegs, and a complete set might look impressive displayed in packaging on a wall.

There is a trade-off, though. Many racing liveries have their most interesting details along the doors and sides. Those graphics are harder to appreciate when the car is facing upward inside the blister.

For collectors who open their cars, that is less of an issue. For collectors who keep everything sealed, the new orientation may take some getting used to.

My first impression is that this is an interesting direction for Hot Wheels. The packaging gives the series its own identity, and the opening lineup offers a strong mix of racing styles. I am looking forward to seeing how these look in person.

love this this new premium series! I'm definitely going to be getting this whole set the when it comes out. I think it is pretty cool even though the packaging is different. I kinda of like it i'm kinda of used to the old packaging but this change up is pretty nice. I think this is the opportunity for them to add some details on the card as well! i think this new design well do pretty good! And like that the little display it comes with!
