First Look at the 2027 Hot Wheels Pop Culture Lineup

Hot Wheels is already giving collectors a look at what’s coming in 2027, and one of the first Premium Pop Culture assortments includes a familiar mix of movies and TV shows.

The lineup features vehicles from The Matrix, Knight Rider, Jurassic World, The A-Team and Top Gun: Maverick.

There are some great-looking releases here, and one in particular is already at the top of my list. But at the same time, I can’t help feeling that Hot Wheels could have been a little more adventurous with the themes they chose.

Here’s a closer look at all five.

The Matrix – ’64 Lincoln Continental

The first car in the assortment is the ’64 Lincoln Continental from The Matrix.

It’s a great choice for a Premium release. The long, low shape of the Continental works perfectly in black, and it’s one of those castings that already has a lot of presence before you even add the movie connection.

The Matrix branding on the card also looks fantastic, with the familiar green digital-code aesthetic making this one stand out on the pegs.

For collectors who enjoy movie cars that are a little less obvious than the usual hero vehicles, this could be one of the sleeper hits of the set.

Knight Rider – K.I.T.T.

Next up is K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider, with the packaging celebrating 40 years of the iconic TV series.

There’s no question K.I.T.T. is one of the most recognizable television cars ever made.

The black Pontiac Trans Am with its red scanner is instantly recognizable even to people who aren’t serious Hot Wheels collectors.

The only problem is that K.I.T.T. is hardly new territory for Hot Wheels.

We’ve seen different Knight Rider releases over the years, so while this version looks good, it doesn’t necessarily feel like something completely fresh for 2027.

Jurassic World – ’92 Jeep Wrangler Sahara

The third release is the ’92 Jeep Wrangler Sahara from Jurassic World.

The Jeep features Jurassic-style graphics, blue wheels and plenty of mud detailing across the body.

Visually, it works really well.

Jurassic Park and Jurassic World vehicles have also become a regular part of the Hot Wheels Pop Culture world, though, so this is another release that feels more like a continuation of something we’ve already seen rather than a big surprise.

That doesn’t mean collectors won’t want it. Jurassic Park vehicles have a huge fan base, and this Jeep should fit nicely alongside the many other releases from the franchise.

The A-Team – Custom GMC Panel Van

This is the one I’m most excited about.

The Custom GMC Panel Van inspired by The A-Team looks fantastic.

The black and grey body, red stripe and red wheels immediately give it that unmistakable A-Team appearance.

For anyone who grew up watching the show, this is going to trigger a serious dose of nostalgia.

The A-Team van has appeared in Hot Wheels form before, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting this one.

Out of the entire assortment, this will definitely be the first one I’m looking for.

Top Gun: Maverick – F/A-18E Super Hornet

The final release is something a little different.

Instead of another car, Hot Wheels is giving us the F/A-18E Super Hornet from Top Gun: Maverick.

It’s great to see the Pop Culture line expand beyond four wheels occasionally.

The Top Gun branding makes a lot of sense here, and the jet gives the assortment some much-needed visual variety.

Even collectors who normally stick to cars may be tempted by this one simply because it looks so different hanging alongside the rest of the Premium lineup.

A Good Lineup, But I Want More Variety

Overall, this looks like a solid start for Hot Wheels Pop Culture in 2027.

There really isn’t a bad release in the group.

But I do have one complaint.

I wish Hot Wheels would dig a little deeper into the enormous world of movies, television and games when putting these assortments together.

Knight Rider, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, The A-Team and Top Gun are all franchises we’ve seen represented by Hot Wheels before.

In some cases, we’re also seeing familiar castings return once again.

There’s nothing wrong with revisiting popular properties, especially when collectors continue buying them, but there are decades of pop culture vehicles that have either never received a Hot Wheels casting or haven’t appeared in years.

That’s where I’d love to see Hot Wheels take a few more chances.

Give us some obscure movie cars.

Bring back forgotten TV vehicles.

Pull something unexpected from the 1980s, 1990s or 2000s.

There are so many possibilities.

Which One Are You Hunting?

Despite wanting a little more variety, I’ll definitely be hunting this assortment when it arrives.

And the A-Team van is at the very top of my list.

Now I want to hear from you.

Which of these five releases would you hunt for first?

And more importantly, what movie, television show or video game vehicle would you love to see Hot Wheels finally make?

They are nice but done reasonably recently so my sentiments are yes Mattel should dig a little deeper into their licensing.
