Hot Wheels RLC Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red Returns in Spectraflame Indigo Blue

Hot Wheels is bringing back the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red for another Red Line Club release, and if the previous versions are anything to go by, collectors may want to be ready when this one goes on sale.

The newest version arrives in Spectraflame Indigo Blue and will be available through Mattel Creations on Tuesday, August 25 at 9 A.M. Pacific, or noon Eastern.

It will be priced at $28, with a limit of two per customer.

But what makes this release particularly interesting is the performance of the previous two Code Red castings on the secondary market.

The First RLC Code Red Has Nearly Tripled in Value

The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red casting first appeared as a Red Line Club exclusive in 2024.

That release featured a Spectraflame Slate finish and originally sold for $25 through Mattel Creations.

Today, the car is averaging around $73 according to HW Price Guide.

That puts its current value at almost three times its original retail price.

For collectors who bought the original release, the Code Red has turned into one of those RLC cars that has quietly performed very well over time.

The Convention Version Is Already Over $100

Hot Wheels brought the casting back again for the 39th Annual Collectors Convention in 2025.

This version featured a Race Red finish and was limited to just 6,200 pieces.

Its value has also been climbing.

The convention Code Red was averaging around $81 in March and is now sitting at approximately $103 on HW Price Guide.

That is a significant increase in just a few months and shows that collectors continue to have strong interest in this casting.

Now the Code Red Is Going Blue

The newest RLC version changes things up with a Spectraflame Indigo Blue finish and dual racing stripes.

It also includes the features collectors expect from a premium Red Line Club release, including Real Riders wheels, a metal body and chassis, and an opening hood with a detailed engine underneath.

That engine detail is particularly fitting considering what the real Shelby GT500 Code Red is capable of.

Shelby transformed the GT500 into an extreme twin-turbocharged Mustang capable of producing up to 1,300 horsepower depending on the fuel being used.

It is one of the wildest modern Shelby Mustangs ever produced, making it a natural fit for an RLC release.

Could This One Sell Out Quickly?

There are never any guarantees when it comes to how quickly an RLC car will sell, but the previous Code Red releases give collectors a reason to pay attention.

The first RLC version has climbed from $25 to around $73.

The convention version is already averaging more than $100.

Now collectors have another opportunity to add the casting to their collections for just $28.

That combination of an established casting, strong previous secondary-market performance, a popular Mustang model and an attractive Spectraflame finish could create plenty of demand.

If you want one, it may be a good idea to be logged into Mattel Creations and ready before the sale begins rather than waiting to see if it sticks around.

At $28, collectors who like the casting have another relatively inexpensive chance to add one to their collection before the secondary market decides what it is worth.
