For the last several years, Hot Wheels has released a limited edition Holiday car available to members of their Red Line Club. This years car is the '41 Willys Gasser Holiday Car in a Spectraflame red with holiday decorations. The car was limited to only 30,000 units and is now sold out. The only way to now get this special holiday car is to purchase it on the secondary market. The original price of the car was $30 if ordered from the Mattel Red Line Clue. The value of this car is now sitting around $50 on the secondary market, just a week after launch.
The original release of the car limited purchases to only 2 per club member with a maximum of 10 per household. Interestingly enough, Mattel did not mention how limited this car would be or that it would be a numbered release (each unit has a unique number). No mention was made on the sales pages of the limit of only 30,000 units. The Gasser took several days to sell out on the website, which is a change some more popular releases in the last couple of years which have sold out in hours or even minutes.
The current resale value puts the '41 Willys Holiday Gasser comfortably in the middle of the pack for resale price of this years RLC cars. The most valuable car so far this year is still the Hot Wheels RLC Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR34) which has a current price of $97. At the other end of the list sits the Hot Wheels RLC Custom Corvette which has a current price of $25.
The '41 Willys is a good car to keep in your collection. With the combination of a cool casting (Gassers are always popular) and the Holiday theme decor, the car is a good bet to retain its value and even potentially appreciate with each Holiday season. Beside's that, it's a really cool car to put out at Christmas along with your other festive decorations.
