Hot Wheels has revealed the first The Hot Ones mix for 2027, and this might be one of the strongest lineups we have seen from the modern version of the series.
The new eight-car set includes a mix of Japanese favorites, European performance cars, American muscle and even a Hot Wheels original.
Collectors will have plenty to hunt for, with the Porsche 935, '71 Datsun 510, BMW M3 Race, '73 Honda Civic Custom and Nissan Skyline C210 all appearing in the same mix.

The complete eight-car lineup is:
- 1/8 – '73 Honda Civic Custom
- 2/8 – Dimachinni Veloce
- 3/8 – Porsche 935
- 4/8 – '70 Dodge Hemi Challenger
- 5/8 – '71 Datsun 510
- 6/8 – BMW M3 Race
- 7/8 – 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS
- 8/8 – Nissan Skyline C210
There really isn't an obvious weak spot in this mix.
The '73 Honda Civic Custom starts things off in purple with vintage Honda racing graphics, while the Dimachinni Veloce gets a bright blue finish with number 26 racing graphics.
The Porsche 935 could be one of the biggest releases of the set. It comes finished in a bright green color with black and red racing stripes and the number 35 across the car.
American muscle is represented by the bright pink '70 Dodge Hemi Challenger and the darker 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS.
The '71 Datsun 510 returns in a deep red finish with white racing graphics, while the BMW M3 Race gets a green and yellow Bilstein-inspired race design.
Finally, the set finishes with the Nissan Skyline C210, wearing a metallic silver finish with black and red graphics.
The History of Hot Wheels The Hot Ones
The Hot Ones name isn't new. In fact, its history goes back more than four decades.
Mattel originally introduced The Hot Ones in 1981. One of the biggest changes was a new wheel and axle design created to reduce friction and make the cars roll faster.
The cars were promoted as some of the fastest non-powered die-cast cars Hot Wheels had produced, and the distinctive Hot Ones wheels became closely associated with the series.
Hot Wheels eventually brought The Hot Ones back in 2011 as a retro-inspired collector series.
That revival featured classic-style packaging and a large assortment of castings, along with harder-to-find chase variations that could feature special red-line or white-line wheel treatments.
Then in 2025, Mattel brought The Hot Ones name back once again as part of the modern Hot Wheels lineup.
The current series combines the retro Hot Ones branding with Spectraflame-style finishes, Hot Ones wheels and card designs heavily inspired by the original releases.
What About the Hot Ones Chase?
There is another reason collectors pay close attention to Hot Ones releases: the chase cars.
The modern Hot Ones series has handled its chase releases differently from lines such as Car Culture.
Instead of adding a separately numbered 0/5 or 0/8 car, chase versions have appeared as cars already included within the numbered eight-car set.
Recent Hot Ones releases have also used upgraded construction, including metal bases, to distinguish certain harder-to-find cars from the standard releases.
For example, previous Hot Ones mixes have included cars such as the '71 Datsun 510 and Volkswagen T1 Panel Bus among the chase releases.
That means collectors will want to pay attention not only to the casting and card number, but also to differences in construction when these new 2027 cars begin appearing.
As of the initial reveal of this new 2027 mix, the chase cars have not yet been reliably confirmed.
With several highly collectible castings in the set, it will be particularly interesting to see which cars Mattel chooses for the harder-to-find versions.
Which Hot Ones Will Be Hardest to Find?
Even before we know exactly which cars will be the chase releases, there are a few obvious candidates to disappear quickly from the pegs.
The Nissan Skyline C210 immediately stands out. Skyline releases almost always attract attention from collectors, and the silver, black and red color combination works particularly well with the retro Hot Ones theme.
The '71 Datsun 510 should be another popular release. The 510 has developed a huge Hot Wheels following over the years and remains one of the more recognizable Japanese castings in the lineup.
Then there is the Porsche 935. Porsche has become one of the hottest brands in Hot Wheels collecting, and this green racing version should be high on plenty of want lists.
The BMW M3 Race and '73 Honda Civic Custom give collectors another two strong choices, making this one of those mixes where finding a complete set may be much harder than simply picking up one or two cars.
One of the Best Hot Ones Mixes Yet?
The latest Hot Ones mix feels like a good example of why the series has become so popular again.
It combines the nostalgia of one of Hot Wheels' classic early-1980s series with castings that appeal directly to today's collectors.
You have a Porsche, Skyline, Datsun, Civic and BMW alongside classic American muscle, all wrapped in bright Spectraflame-style colors and retro racing graphics.
And once the chase cars are confirmed, there will be another reason to start searching through those Target pegs.
